Story
On 17th July at 41 weeks pregnant following a very healthy pregnancy with no complications our lives changed forever. I developed HELLP syndrome a rare but life threatening pregnancy complication. My condition rapidly deteriorated and I was rushed into surgery, our beautiful daughter Ada was born sleeping by cesarian section.
What followed was a team of surgeons to save my life, my liver had haemorrhaged then ruptured and I had lost 5 litres of blood, I lay in ICU with an open abdomen for two days until the surgeons were sure they bleeding had stopped. I spent 2 weeks in an induced coma on a ventilator in which time my kidneys had failed and I was on continuous dialysis. When they tried to bring me round to breathe unassisted they discovered a bleed on my lung so severe that it was pushing on my heart, I was rushed back into surgery, too unstable for keyhole surgery I underwent a sternotomy where I lost a further 2 litres of blood. I spent a total of 6 weeks in hospital, had pneumonia and several chest drains to remove fluid from my lungs. Not only have we lost our daughter but I have been extremely lucky not to loose my life too. The scars will be a constant reminder of the worst time in our lives, however, none of this compares to the pain we feel from loosing our beautiful daughter.
During my time in hospital my partner Carl along with our family could use the hospitals existing maternity bereavement room - Billy’s room to spend time with our daughter. Once well enough to leave the ward I also used Billy’s room to spend valuable time with Ada and our family away from a hospital ward and in a more homely environment we were able to say our goodbyes. For this we will be forever grateful for, so it goes without saying this is a cause very close to our hearts, raising money to help any family going through child bereavement, in memory of our beautiful Ada.
