Hello my name is Zoe, I'm 16 and I'm fundraising for Invest in M.E to help them find an effective treatment for an illness called M.E.
M.E is a horrible and poorly understood illness. It's sometimes called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). 250,000 people in the UK have M.E and millions more worldwide and yet we don't know what causes it and there is no cure or effective treatment. 25% are so severely affected that they are housebound or bedbound. Sadly I'm one of the 25%. My ME came from a flu infection in February 2014 and I feel like it's never really gone away.
Before I got ill I was loving life. I had friends. I went to school, I did street-dancing and scouts and I played the flute. I was normal and life was fun. When I got ill I had to give up all my hobbies and drop out of school. Now, I'm home schooled and working towards my GCSEs next year. I have a permanent exhaustion that never goes away and I struggle with nausea and poor concentration and aches and pains, I can't really walk because I'm so weak, I get headaches that feel like my brain is squeezing out my eyeballs, I get hot and cold for no reason, I get dizzy when I stand. Everyday I have to plan future energy usage to avoid flare ups but the symptoms are always there. I can't sleep it off and getting exercise makes it all worse.
Some of you may already know a little about the charity I'm fundraising for but for those of you who don't here's a little bit about them.
Invest in M.E is a great charity funding biomedical research into the causes and effects of M.E. They are based in Norwich and are battling hard for this horrible illness to be taken seriously. Any donations will go straight to them and will all help their research centre in Norwich.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and a huge thank you to anyone who donated! Xx
