Story

Why £300? When I reach £300, I will have raised enough money to fund two women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with Life-Skills training, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to exercise greater decision making power within her family and community, thereby contributing to sustainable and lasting change.

The DR Congo has been called the 'rape capital of the world' and it has been estimates that 48 women are raped there every hour. This tragedy is made even worse by the fact that the stigma surounding rape and the fear of HIV means that if these women escape from the militias who often keep them as slaves, they are frequently rejected by their husbands and families.

Women for women programs in DR Congo include direct financial aid, rights awareness classes, job-skills training and emotional support for women. It also, and vitally, addresses men, teaching them to respect women, and, through them, their communities.
