My name is Zoe Johnson, I'm 14 and I've had ME for 2 years. ME is a horrible illness that can leave people housebound or even bedbound. My main symptoms are exhaustion, brainfog, anxiety, nausea and poor circulation but there are so many other symptoms that it really doesn't make my life much fun. My ME came from a flu infection in February 2014 and I feel like it's never really gone away.
Before I got ill I was a bright, energetic girl who did street-dancing and scouts and I played the flute. I was in full time school and I had lots of friends. Now, I'm home schooled and I'm only doing 4 subjects. The only times I get out of the house are on good days or when I have an appointment. I see the few friends I have left maybe once every couple of months and so I'm very isolated.
I've just started my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and will be spending 6 months raising awareness for ME and fundraising for ME charities. I am limited to what I can physically do so I have decided to start with a sponsored hair cut and the hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust who make real hair wigs for children suffering with hair loss as a result of cancer.
The money I raise by doing this will go to Invest in ME who are looking to train medical staff so that people with ME are treated better. They campaign for work, benefits, education, etc for people with ME. They are also trying to set up a biomedical research centre here in the UK! There are 250,000 people in the UK diagnosed with ME so every penny helps!
Please sponsor me because every penny helps!
