Story
As a fitness fanatic I have always wanted to complete a marathon and when my friend Matt challenged me to this opportunity coupled with raising money for the charity Brake I jumped at the chance.
Matt brought my attention to the charity Brake having been a victim of a hit and run in November. After what was a pleasant night out, Matt got a taxi home like many of us would do, with friends. The next thing we all knew he was in an ICU unit with horrendous injuries that were caused by a vehicle travelling at high velocity, who failed to stop at the scene, and to this day, is yet to be traced.
The impact of the 'hit and run' left Matt with multiple, life threatening injuries including a collapsed right lung, 12 broken ribs, a lacerated liver & spleen, a broken right leg, multiple neck and vertebrae fractures as well as other significant injuries. Matt has now made a miraculous recovery and is continuing to do so. To have seen Matt, his family and close friends suffer from the incident due to the reckless actions of an unidentified driver, who was travelling at high speed, highlights the importance of road safety and justice for those, like Matt, who are directly affected by carelessness behind the wheel. I am happy to say that on this occasion, with dedication and the assistance of great medical minds and good friends, Matt is now on the long road to recovery that could take up to 18 months, with extensive rehabilitation and physiotherapy helping him to get back to the way he was before the incident. Not everyone is this lucky but awareness of such incidents, prevention and support is campaigned by Brake.
Any donation to this cause would be amazing, I thank all of those who wish to donate and support me through my first marathon!!
Every 30 seconds someone, somewhere in the world, is killed in a road crash. With your help, Brake in the UK campaigns to stop the carnage and also supports the victims.
