Story
The EY Foundation is an independent UK charity, supporting young people who face significant barriers to employment. Through their deep understanding of both sides of the labour market, they bring young people and employers together to close the skills gap between UK businesses and hidden talent. They work closely with employers to deliver employability skills programmes, and ultimately help young people access opportunities that improve their career prospects.
The Social Mobility Commission’s report in July 2021 painted a shocking picture, with over 4 million children – almost one third of children in the UK – living in poverty. We know too that household income has a long-term impact on the prospects of young people. For example, you are 60% more likely to get a professional job if you come from a privileged rather than working class background.
The intersection of rising food and fuel prices, inflation, and cuts to the universal credit uplift compounds problems already impacting too many in our communities, leading to growing concerns over financial instability, mental health, and food insecurity. Concerns that are shouldered not just by the young people they work with, but also parents, guardians, and youth workers.
This makes the work of the EY Foundation, and other organisations in this sector, more urgent than ever. Find out more about the work they do here About Us (eyfoundation.com)
In October 2022 we will be trekking 200KM in the Sahara to raise money for the EYF. Every donation will help the EYF reach more young people, break down more barriers and change more lives.
