Story
During June my mother Julia who had been diagnosed with secondary bone cancer took a turn for the worse. She was admitted to hospital but her condition deteriorated rapidly I was so concerned and upset since I didn’t want her to spend her last days in hospital since she had always said she wanted to spend her last days in the hospice. When I was eventually told she had a place the feeling of relief was immense. From the time she entered the hospice to the time she took her last breath the attention and care that she received was incredible. She was treated with the utmost dignity and nothing was ever too much for the staff they made sure she received whatever she wanted. They showed such compassion not just for my mum but also myself who was struggling to come to terms with losing my best mate!!! This is why I decided to try and help them build the new St Anne’s hospice so more people in the community can have the opportunity like my mum of good end of life care and also respite care to give carers the opportunity to recouperate and have some time to themselves. I know from experience how important it is for those carers who are trying to juggle working 9-5 and also caring for their beloved family member to feel they have a support line such as St Ann’s Hospice.
I am hoping to raise a minimum of £1000 in memory of my mum to contribute towards the new purpose built hospice in Heald Green.
