I first met Els when we were both in our twenties. I had moved to Lanarkshire Health Board and Els was then working as a dental nurse. She occasionally would work with me if my nurse was off sick or on holiday.  She had left her homeland, the Netherlands, to marry Gordon and her relaxed, easy going nature was a pleasure to know.  We both moved on in our careers but always kept in touch ,through having our children and moving houses.   Her hospitality was legendary and always very generous in everything she did. She made a great effort to keep in touch with all her friends for which I am very grateful.

She died suddenly last year from heart disease . Running this Marathon will I hope contribute in a small way to her memory and help others with heart disease.
