Story
Jan Yeates was the finest thing on two legs to walk the planet. In abundance she had courage, thoughtfulness, integrity and a lovely self-deprecating sense of humour. Sadly, she died on 22nd February 2012 - a great loss. Part of the legacy that she left behind was a wish to help out youngsters taking care of sick or elderly relatives and give them a break from the demanding tasks and grind entailed in caring. Sadly, in these straitened economic times, much of the UK Government support for these young carers has been withdrawn and it is beholden on us to try and replace (or even improve upon) this support. The proceeds of this website will be entirely devoted to the organisation of trips away from their homes to a beautiful 'escapist' marine environment (like the Devon/Dorset/Cornwall coast) and teach them to enjoy the oceans and their wonderful biodiversity - - - and maybe even help them to learn to dive. In essence, we are trying to fulfil Jan's wishes and it would be absolutely fantastic to introduce the most deserving on the planet to the wonderful biodiversity of the seas (perhaps holding the planet's most beautiful flora and fauna). If we are to keep a 'stream' of these young carers going to the coast for one or two day's break, it will entail substantial funding. With other Justgiving webpages, we have been staggered to discover the extraordinary generosity of both the UK public and 'kindred spirits' around the world. It all makes for a much better place. To these ends, the SCCT (www.sharkandcoralconservation.com) has teamed up with ACTA, Bristol (www.acta-bristol.com). ACTA will help with the effort to identify worthy young carers and boost their self confidence via the stage. The SCCT will arrange for the identified youngsters to visit the coast. Monty Halls (Junior) - www.montyhalls.co.uk is willing to help out by taking these youngsters out in his RIB and introduce them to the ocean biodiversity and maybe encourage them to take up sports diving. They might even meet Rubens. the huge four-legged TV star ! .
