We educate, support & raise awareness to save lives and improve outcomes.

Story

As far as healthcare charities go, the UK Sepsis Trust is a little bit different. Although fundraising is central to their cause, they don’t need to raise millions of pounds to fund expensive research.

Theirs is the challenging but attainable task of communicating: communications with government, educating health professionals, spreading awareness among the public...... Which is where YDH's cycle team who are taking part in the #cycle4sepsis2016 comes into play.

Last year we cycled to The Houses of Parliament, this year our destination is Cardiff Bay. We leave YDH on the 10th September, via Musgrove Park Hospital, Weston Super-Mare, Bristol Hospitals NHS trust and Newport before reaching our destination on the 11th.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
