Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatulaahi wa barakatu
One of the poorest and least developed countries in the world, Yemen is facing huge political and humanitarian crises.
Around two-thirds of the population live rurally, with most earning a tenuous livelihood by farming. Acute water shortages in recent years, however, have put massive strain on families in these areas.
Like much of the Middle East, Yemen suffered huge political instability following the Arab Spring in 2011. Nationwide protests led to civil strife and an eventual government coup.
A crisis developed in 2015, however, when aerial strikes and an escalation in fighting left over 15 million people across the country in need of humanitarian assistance.
Ummah Welfare Trust is today responding by supporting families displaced around San’a, the country’s capital, with dry food provisions.
