Year 3's Sponsored read

Year 3 CJS is raising money for Borneo Orangutan Survival UK

Sponsored read · 11 June 2021

Borneo Orangutan Survival UK is part of the world’s largest orangutan conservation organization (BOSF). Our mission is to save orangutans through rescue, rehabilitation and release into protected rainforests. We also protect and restore orangutan habitats by working with native communities nearby.

Story

After learning about the dangers facing orangutans as part of our rainforest topic, the Year 3 children at Connaught Junior School wanted to do something to support and save orangutans. On Friday 11th June we are completing a sponsored read where each child will read for 100 minutes. All proceeds will go to the charity Borneo Orangutan Survival UK.

Here is their mission statement:

Our mission is to engage supporters and donors from around the world with the plight of the Bornean Orangutan and share the work of the amazing staff at The BOS Foundation. All three species of orangutan are critically endangered, and a recent study estimated that over 100,000 orangutans have been killed in just the past 17 years as their forest home is logged and burned primarily for the production of palm oil. The only reaction to this shocking news is to do something, don't despair, act! Help us help them!
