Story

On 27th September 2014, Junior Lawyers of Southport and Ormskirk will take on the challenge of climbing the Yorkshire Three Peaks in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Challenge involves climbing Pen-y-Ghent (2,277 ft), Whernside (2,415 ft) and Ingleborough (2,372 ft).

The group will start from the village of Horton in Ribblesdale  and walk to Pen-Y- Ghent to start the first ascent at 6am on the Saturday morning. This mountain will be a gentle incline at first, though the steep section approaching the summit will require some scrambling to reach the top!

Following descent from the first mountain (Pen-Y-Ghent), the group will take the long walk to the second of the three mountains, Whernside. This mountain is known to have fantastic views but once up there, the group will have to get down by a steep, narrow, rocky and uneven path!

Last but not least, the group will tackle the steepest mountain of the three, Ingleborough. This is the hardest of the three mountains to climb, with lots of scrambling required with, by this point, very wobbly legs....but hey, why call it a challenge if it isn't!?

Upon descent from the last mountain, with exhausted and aching legs, the group will take the 5 mile walk back to their start point to collect a well earned pint from the local pub!

The walk will cover a distance of 24.5 miles in total with nearly 5,249ft of ascent and descent and could take anywhere between 8-14 hours to complete! The group aim to finish the walk in 12 hours.

Funds will be raised on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support and all donations are greatly received.

Donations such as yours, could pay for a Macmillan nurse to help people living with cancer and their families, and may enable them to receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
