Why I'm running for Freedom from Torture
I'm running the Great Birmingham Run - a half-marathon - for the Freedom From Torture charity. I have chosen this charity since, unlike many other charities I could have chosen, it doesn't accept government funding and donations from individuals provide its core income. Also since 99% of its clients are asylum seekers or refugees it doesn't necessarily have the philanthropic backing of those closely affected that other charities might have. Here you can find some more information about the charity: http://www.freedomfromtorture.org/5176
Your donation goes a long way...
£10 could provide resources for our art therapy sessions.
£60 could pay for an individual psychotherapy session for a survivor of torture (including interpreting and travel costs).
£500 could pay for activity meetings between a child and their befriender for a year."
My own target is £250 but to use an old cliche, every penny really does count so I would really hope to surpass that target with your help!
