Story
You will know that I am a slightly lardy and profoundly unfit geeky person, best suited to sitting at a desk or, at most, standing still in a choir.
However, somewhat out of character, I have become part of the 2013 "Domino Dander for Dosh" event. This is an 80 mile (128km) walk, over 4 days, along the Great Glen Way in Scottishland. That's 20 miles each day. Day after day. It's the first time for an embarrassing number of decades that I've attempted to raise money for charity through any kind of physical exertion, so please give generously and provide me with the inspiration (guilt) to triumph (not give up) in this heroic feat (marginally insane venture) - thank you!
BACKGROUND:
In 2010 a small group of friends from the IBM/Lotus world took on the challenge of a 26 mile off-road hike to raise money for the East African Famine and thanks to your generosity they raised over £3,000. This year I have joined the group, with a bigger challenge and a bigger target of £8000.
THE CHARITY:
One of the worst things that can happen to anyone is to be told that one of your children has an incurable, life shortening disease. And when that happens access to a good hospice service becomes invaluable. As we are walking in Scotland we are collecting for a local charity that supports children and their families when a terminal disease is diagnosed. This charity is The Children's Hospice Association of Scotland. I am sure you will agree that caring for a terminally ill child and their extended family is very important work, so please please please give generously and sponsor the team to we walk the 80 miles from the West side of Scotland to the East.
MORE:
You can find out more about us and the charity by visiting the other Domino Danderers pages, and can keep up to date by having a look at the "Blog Posts" section on our main website.
Thanks - The Domino Dander 4 Dosh Team
PS. For those unfamiliar with "Dandering", it is the Irish word that describes walking and chatting and having a marvelous time doing it ;-) and "Dosh" is slang for cash.
