Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Dad, Brian Wise, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in approx 1994 and had it for 10 years before he died in 2004, aged 72.
Dad was a kind, generous, lovable soul, always with a smile and a cheery hello. He spent 24 years of his life in Royal Navy working on submarines, then ran a grocery corner stores and loved keeping his customers happy, before he retired.
How things changed when Alzheimers took hold, quite rapidly. He became very anxious and we had a few near miss situations at home with potential accidents, as his memory and sense of danger became confused. Eventually for his own safety, we reluctantly found Dad a place in a care home.
One of my enduring memories is walking with Dad along the corridor holding his hand like a small child, and seeing the sparkle in his eyes when he recognised (but not quite!) one of our boys in the central living area.
I've walked Stonehenge to Avebury a few years ago for Dad/Alzheimers and now want to take on another challenge in his memory.
My family will tell you "David's no good with heights!" - actually I am ok with heights (I LOVE sitting in the window seat on planes and looking out the window) - it's not the height, its the falling!! Eeek - what am I doing???
What I am doing is challenging myself.
You see, I am a life/confidence coach and so want to be a good role model for my current and future clients - there's that great book by Susan Jeffers : "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" - so that's what I'm going to do.
What better way than by raising my target of £1000, and being fitter and healthier by 10 lbs to be able to do the jump!
So please help me by using the DONATE button below and give what you can.
Many thanks
David
