Story

Please help us raise £10,000 to get Willow walking.

Willow has Cerebral Palsy which that prevents her limbs working well. Her core and legs cannot support her body. She is currently in a wheelchair but is desperate to follow in her twin sisters’ footsteps and learn to walk.

She has undergone a range of therapies throughout the 6 years since she was born, the most effective by far occurred at Swimlab International, a specialist facility in Lanzarote. The physio and occupational therapy available to Willow on the NHS is very limited and infrequent meaning she has reached very few milestones.

For 2 years, we saved-up to enable us to spend a week at Swimlab International. Although expensive, it was well worth it because for the very first time, Willow was able to move all four limbs independently.

This treatment is concentrated, specialist and unavailable in the UK, so we are working with Tree of Hope charity with the primary aim of sending Willow to Swimlab again.

At Swimlab International, the water supports Willow’s body allowing her a freedom of limb movement that she does not have on land. They use a unique combination of aquatic and land-based therapies to help children with a wide range of neurological and developmental disorders reach their full potential.

With further treatment, she will not recover full use of her limbs, but the chances of her being able to have greater range of movement will increase. Repetition of movement will train her brain to avoid the damaged parts and make new connections to achieve better body control.

Willow has also been offered a 3 week intensive Physiotherapy at the NAPA Center, London. We hope to raise the money needed to secure a place for her. Over the 3 weeks, Willow will spend 1 hour of Physiotherapy, 1 hour of Occupational therapy and 1 hour of Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) per day.

We are keen for Willow to try DMI as it has had great results in helping others worldwide to reach developmental milestones by improving/ provoking movement with emphasis on alignment, sensory integration and function.

The combined therapies offered at NAPA and Swimlab International are tailored to Willows abilities and motivations. £10,000 will allow her to attend both facilities. If we exceed the target amount then we would use any extra money towards local horse riding lessons with Riding for the Disabled.

You can make a huge difference to this little girls quality of life and future ability to be as independent as possible as an adult. The money you pledge will send Willow to Swimlab and NAPA, world-renowned specialist facilities, to provide her with the best therapy.
