Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the William's Walk For Great Ormond Street Hospital page.

In July 2010 William was being treated for suspected constipation. He was becoming increasingly lethargic and uncomfortable. After a brief visit to our local hospital he was in an ambulance, lights flashing and on his way to Great Ormond Street Hospital. A few CT's and X-Rays later the Consultants took us in to a side room where our world shook and William had himself a serious challenge.

William was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma. Following a biopsy William became extremely ill and was taken to Intensive Care. His tumours were breaking down and his kidneys, compromised by the tumours could not cope. He ended up with two dialysis machines, chest drains, ventilator and all manner of drugs. It all got a little touch and go, we'd had the chat where they tell you they've done all they can and it is now up to William. The following 48 hours were the longest of our lives, but our prayers were answered and he began to improve. Over the next four months William was hospitalised receiving treatment. We stayed at his side. We relied on our family to look after our other two children, Olivia and Isabelle.

Thanks to the medical and nursing staff at Great Ormond Street and William's unrelenting fight the cancer has gone. William is now back home with his sisters and we have a very positive prognosis.

Now William is 'well' again, we feel it is time to give something back to the hospital that looked after him (and us) so well. We have decided to do a walk from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin along the Chelmer River in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital 21st May 2011.

The intention is to get as many people involved as possible and raise as much as we can. We will be posting updates and information as preparations come together here:- http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Williams-Walk-for-GOSH/169759176399783
