Story
Everyone in some way shape or form, whether that be
personally or someone they know will be affected by mental health in one way or
another. I personally for years had my own problems with mental health from
anxiety to dealing with a plane crash killing one of my friends and seeing
things which still affect me to this day.
Sadly this ride has now taken on even more personal reasons for me. In April 2020, James Peek took his own life. A friend I grew up with from the age of 12, living together in the same boarding house. He was an extremely talented person who was a great person to grow up with.
That’s my personal relationship with mental health,
however in April 2019 the rugby 7's team I play for lost a teammate, a friend,
a brother, to suicide. His name was Shaun. A guy who was loved by so many
people, for the last moments of his life, felt totally alone.
This woke us all up to the reality of mental
health. That it's an illness which doesn't discriminate and can affect anyone, many
of which are suffering alone and in silence.
And we want to do something about this.
A group of us have decided to cycle account the North Coast 500, a 500 mile loop around the coast of north Scotland (that means a lot of long hills). We are doing this to get people talking about mental health and raise much needed funds for Mind and the amazing work they do.
I'm aiming to raise £1500 by the ride..
Thank you for helping any donation you make; you
are saving someone's life.
