Story

On 7th October 2012, within 48 hours of arriving at Great Ormond Street Hospital and after an MRI scan, Mikey Cecil and his wife Annie were told that their only child and baby daughter had a very aggressive brain tumour.

They had begun to notice subtle and worrying behaviour changes in the three weeks leading up to her admission to GOSH. Isla had been blossoming throughout the course of the summer and had been learning to walk and talk armed with big blue eyes, blonde locks and a cheeky smile.

Mikey, an old friend from school for the last 20 years, recalls how learning the outcome of the biopsy was a very surreal moment and one that will haunt him forever. The biopsy confirmed that Isla had a very rare tumour called ETANTR which had originated in her brain stem and had spread to her spine.

Tragically, because of her age and the location of the tumour, it was inoperable and untreatable.

Mikey and Annie left GOSH that night to spend their last few days with Isla at home. She was so brave right the way through to the end when she died in her parents arms on 7th November 2012.

NO parent should ever be told that there is no treatment available  for their child , as Mikey and Annie were with Isla, and that's why they have set up the Isla Cecil Brighter Future Fund to raise £250,000 to support a new consortium set up by Isla's Oncologist Dr Darren Hargrave.

I'm delighted to be on the committee at Great Ormond Street with Annie and Mikey - and we will raise that money. Please give whatever you can to a truly remarkable cause, it would mean so much.
