I am certain you will have heard by now about the Grand Depart of this year’s Tour de France taking place between Leeds & Harrogate on July 5th. I have been invited to ride in the ‘Marie Curie’s Power Peloton,’ as part of a group of just 15 riders, I will ride the same route as Froome, Cavendish, Contador and all the other pro’s just hours in front of them.  This means I need to be cycling at a rate of approximately 18mph in order to complete the stage in time, something which will be a real challenge as the route is 120miles and climbs over 8,000ft through the Yorkshire Dales. 

As you may be aware I have done several cycling challenges over the past few years, but this will be by far the hardest to date and I have been in training for several months already. Given the added pressure of the Tour de France being the world’s largest annual sporting event and over 1 million spectators watching roadside on the day, it’s with a certain amount of trepidation that I send you this request! 

The aim is to raise enough money to fund a Marie Curie Nurse for one year, these nurses give free hands-on care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes, and vital emotional support to their loved ones, and they allow families to make the most of the precious time they have left together.
