The tortoise, upset by the hare’s manner, said, 'Let’s have a race and see who is faster.'

Florence (or for those in the know 'Firenze') Marathon · 28 November 2010

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

For those of you that know Lou and I, you will know for sure that we are not natural born runners. Indeed, after only completing a mere two 10k's and one half marathon 'race', we felt the need to challenge ourselves to a 26.2 mile jaunt around the streets of Florence. After only a few weeks training there has already been tears, sweat and far too much lycra! However, I know that we both possess enough sheer determination to see us crawl along to the finish line. Although we are looking forward to the challenge there is a very real reason for choosing to do this.

As many of you will know I unexpectedly lost my father in April this year. 10 years ago my dad contracted a virus which attacked the muscles of his heart. Luckily this was controlled successfully by medication until very recently when the strain became a little too much and his heart went into failure. My dad was an hugely positive influence in my life and I hope the donations raised might go some way to preventing others from losing someone as special. As such, all money given will go towards the British Heart Foundation.

Thank you all for reading and hopefully donating!

Kim and Lou xx

ps. to prove the success of our first (3 and half hour ;-))  marathon, the results will be published here unless we end up being picked up by the loser bus! Either way, I'm sure the pints of Peroni will nurse both our legs and our pride.
