Story

*** CHALLENGE CHANGE***

Hi Everyone, so after a lot of thought I have decided to change my Diamond Challenge. My original challenge was to lose 4 stone, although I have not done this I do not feel that I have failed!

The reason I chose to lose weight was because I wanted to be fitter and healthier and set a better example for my son. Although I have not achieved the goal of 4 stone, I still feel I have done what I set out to do. My diet is healthy and balanced, I eat more fruit and veg than I have done before, my son will eat a variety of fruit and veg and Im more active than I thought!

The reason I have not lost loads of weight, despite all the good things I eat, is that I do still enjoy treats. I feel I work hard, and food is my pleasure in life. Why shouldn’t I have a cake or a chocolate bar, or a takeaway on a bad day?!

I am coming to realise that I am healthier than I gave myself credit for. I have 3 proper meals per day, I eat plenty of fruit and veg and my diet is vast and varied. I have a low resting heart rate and after any exercise it restores back quickly – which shows that my heart is healthy. I have a fitbit to see how active I am. I usually manage around 8,000 steps per day without even trying, that’s just walking to work and being up and about. However Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays I exceed the 10,000 steps a day goal, so on average I do the recommend 10,000 steps (5 miles) per day.

I think over the last 9 months, I may not have lost much, but I have gained a better perspective on life and what’s truly important in life - and that is living and being happy!

I know a lot of you have sponsored me to do my challenge, so I will not let you down and I do intend to still challenge myself. I have decided that I am going to complete a 10 mile countryside walk on September 10th. I walk on average 5 miles a day and do a desk job, so 10 miles in one go will still be a challenge for me.

All the money you have raised will help young people aged 14 – 25 across the UK access and complete their DofE. After working for the DofE for 5 years I have realised there are so many people who benefit from the Award – Young Offenders who are given a second chance, rather than resorting back to crime they have achieved something they are proud of and can be used on their CV so they can better themselves. I have seen young people who may not have many friends or family and will have been reclusive behind a computer screen – but they have pushed themselves to achieve their sections, making friends and developing interests on their way, they come away with a better outlook and in a better mental state than before. The DofE is not just about posh kids camping, it’s for everyone, from all backgrounds. I have checked and approved over 10,000 awards and each one tells a different story.

**************************************************************************

I’m not putting it off any longer. I’m taking the DofE Diamond Challenge right now. Join me or sponsor me and help transform the lives of vulnerable young people.

so 1st January 2016 is the day!

I have signed up to do my Diamond DofE and my personal challenge is to lose weight - at least 60lbs (4 .3 stone) !! Please support me with donating whatever you can no matter how little, it all counts and adds up!

I have a 3 year old son and I want to be more active and healthy, so I can do more with him. He is my motivation to do this for so many reasons. I want to be able to run around and play football with him. I feel terrible when he asks me to go down slides or crawl through tunnels and I know I can not fit! I want him to learn healthy eating habits from watching me eat a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and I want to ensure that I stay fit and healthy so I am around to embarrass him for as long as possible!

In the process of doing this I am raising money for a great cause. The DofE changes the lives of young people and can set them up with the skills they need for life and a brighter future. I always though the DofE was "posh kids going camping" but its not, after working for the charity for 4 years I have seen that there is another side to the award, striving to change the lives of disadvantaged  young people, disabled young people, young offenders and all walks of life. The DofE really is open to anybody and its all about overcoming our personal challenges and not letting them stand in our way.

If you, or anyone else you know would like to do a challenge or join me on mine please contact me and we can sign you up too!

Thanks for reading and thank you for  your support - even if it isn't financial, any support is greatly appreciated.
