Story
I have decided to run the half-marathon this year in support of the Dyspraxia Foundation.
Dyspraxia is an impairment of the organisation of movement. Associated with this may be problems of language, perception and thought.
There is very little awareness of this condition, especially in schools in Singapore and even less support for children with Dyspraxia. Teachers are unaware of this condition and thus unable to provide the necessary support for this learning difficulty.
My son, Aaron, is Dyspraxic and has struggled coping with mainstream school throughout his school life, mainly because teachers are unaware of this condition and are unable to adopt appropriate teaching strategies to help him.
Dyspraxia is thought to affect up to 6 per cent of the population and up to 2 per cent severely. Males are three times more likely to be affected than females.
With better awareness of this condition in school children, the child's special educational and social needs could be identified. Action could be taken to provide the appropriate support and reduce the impact of this condition on the child and their whole family.
I would like to ask you to donate generously to this cause to help promote awareness and the understanding of this condition so that people with Dyspraxia can be helped.
Just so that you can justify making a large donation, I will be running the 21.1km in a Banana Suit! Yes, I will look an idiot, and yes, it will be warm but that will make your donation all that more worthwhile, don't you think?
