PRESS RELEASE

Wayne Dixon  is  taking  on a challenge for Guide Dogs

Wayne Dixon  is going to take on the challenge of a lifetime to raise money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association by participating in a Coast to Coast, Trans Pennine Challenge..

The challenge is in the form of a cycle ride over a four day period, the departure point is Southport Merseyside routing via National Cycle Route  62 To The Fair Town of Hornsea Yorkshire , We aim to cover 50 plus miles a day spending Overnight stops in East Didsbury, Sheffield and Finally Selby

The complete mileage is 218 miles Sponsorship is gauged on a per mile basis, or a one off donation.

Wayne will become a Guide Dogs Superhero and undertake this challenge after months of training and preparation. Wayne aims to raise

£  2500.00 to support Guide Dogs’ work of providing guide dogs to give freedom, mobility and independence to blind and partially-sighted people.

Wayne commented on why he decided to take on the challenge and raise money for Guide Dogs “…..I’ve always had a special, Interest and commitment in the Guide Dogs Movement, back in 1992, I raised £1000 pounds for the charity which allowed me to Name a guide Dog. The chosen name was Whisky who served his owner for many years.  My family regularly donate to Guide Dogs and would really appreciate your support…”

Peter Emmett from Guide Dogs Events Team said: “It costs £10 a day to breed, train and support each guide dog partnership and as the charity relies on voluntary donations to fund its services, every penny raised will make a life-changing difference to blind and partially-sighted people.”

Further information on all Guide Dogs’ events is available by calling the Events Team on 0845 600 6787 or visiting www.guidedogs.org.uk/events

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
