Story
My daughter, Isma, was born without an immune system due to a very rare condition. In September 2018, she underwent a bone marrow transplant in Newcastle in an attempt to cure her and give her a second chance at life. We were in Newcastle for just short of 4 months. It was a very difficult time but many people helped us along the way who will always have my gratitude.
One charity who helped us immensely was the Rainbow Trust. They would look after Isma for 2-3 hours every week, which gave me an opportunity to do various chores such as washing my clothes, going to the barbers or food shopping. Sometimes, I’d also use this time to go for a walk and gather my thoughts. Their support was an absolute godsend; they made an extremely difficult time easier and I’m not sure what I would have done without their help.
It would be remiss of me not to return the favour in some small way. So, I’m using my place in the Great North Run this year to fundraise for this wonderful charity who help families with a seriously ill child. The fact that this event is held in in Newcastle will make it all the more poignant for me. Anything you’re able to contribute will be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping other families in similar situations. Thank you, Wasim
