Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
Cancer, in one of its various forms, will affect more than one in three people. In recent years a person very dear to me suffered from breast cancer and, just last year, my mother was diagnosed with inoperable throat cancer. Thankfully, both came through their ordeals and remain fit and healthy. Sadly, this is not always the case, and I wanted to take this opportunity to try and raise much needed funds for Cancer research UK, the world’s largest cancer charity.
It is my intention to walk the 400 miles of an historic pilgrim's path between the cities of Oslo and Trondheim in Norway. The trek will start in Oslo, go through the Olympic town of Lillehammer and over the Dovrefjell mountains before eventually terminating at the Cathedral in Trondheim. I will be walking the path alone and unsupported, carrying everything on my back and camping in the wild. There will most certainly be hardships and adverse weather to face along the way, especially in view of the time of year, but in light of the hardships faced by cancer sufferers they pale into insignificance. This is why I am undertaking the walk to raise money for Cancer research UK.
The money raised from my journey will help the charity in its work on all aspects of cancer, from understanding the causes to developing and testing ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it. This will benefit not only UK residents as the research is shared throughout Europe and the rest of the world, with many European residents already reaping the benefits of their findings.
The charity receives no government funding whatsoever, so please give generously for this very worthy cause.
Thank you most kindly,
Mark Treleaven-Jones.
