Following the success of last year's ME Sea to Summit Challenge we are planning to run the event again this year. This event will take place on Saturday the 13th May, starting at Laxey beach at 10am. You can run or walk to the summit of Snaefell and can get the tram back down or run/walk back to Laxey beach. The distance is about 5 miles or so each way. Alternatively, you could walk part of the way up Snaefell or across Laxey sea front-whatever suits you. Please feel free to invite your friends/family to take part in the event.
After the event, we intend to meet up for lunch somewhere in Laxey (details to be confirmed) so even if you can’t make the walk, you would be more than welcome to show your support by joining us afterwards. To take part in the event a small donation could be made on the day or via our justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Walk-For-ME-Walk-For-ME
Money raised will contribute to the ‘Walk For ME’ event. The idea behind this event is that people show support to those who suffer from ME by carrying out an activity the person would like to do but can not. While doing so, money can be raised to support a charity that carries out research in to ME. As many of you may know, this is a cause close to us so your support would really be appreciated.
ME is a chronic debilitating condition which effects people from all walks of life and there are currently 250,000 people suffering from this in the UK alone. Symptoms vary from person to person and much is unknown about what causes it and there is no cure. There is often stigma attached as there can be disbelief in an illness that is neither understood or fully accepted. Sufferers are often left isolated and have to learn to manage their lives living with ME. Thus research is desperately needed to try and help those suffering from this crippling condition to regain their health.
Our very dear friend has been suffering from this awful condition for nearly 10 years now and it has taken so much away from her; she was just a normal active 20 something, not too long back from university, working hard within a job that she was passionate about and had just bought her first home when she got glandular fever which led to ME and her world fell apart…ME has stripped her of life as she knew it. She has gone from being the life and soul of the party to no longer being able to go to the party as she has to conserve what little energy she has to fight this awful illness. She has lost her career, relationships, friendships and arguably what some people say are “the best years of her life”. There is no end in sight, yet she remains one of the most compassionate, caring and positive people we know. Every day she continues to fight, carrying out research and relentlessly trying new ideas to try and get better. She has come across so many brick walls and has been let down so many times through lack of awareness, both personally and professionally, yet she never gives up and always manages to see the good in every situation. We honestly don’t know how she does it and are so incredibly proud of her. Watching somebody you love suffer like this is extremely hard and we are left feeling helpless so please join us in any way you can to help raise awareness and support research in to curing this terrible illness which will not only help our friend but also help others who suffer from ME.

So we can finalise details, please indicate whether or not you would like to be involved in all or some of the walk or run or even if you’d just like to meet up afterwards for food.
Thank you in advance for your support.
