Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

UPDATE: December 2023                                          The trip was completed on Monday September 26th 2022,where it all began in April of that year,at RSPB Leighton Moss.4100 miles cycled over 89 full cycling days.65,574 meters of ascent : that's over 7 ascents of Everest from sea level !

Carol,my partner, was with me for the final 3 weeks in September. She cycled around 1000 miles of the trip with me in total. This made it all possible and so much more enjoyable.

I have left the 'Story' as originally 'told' (and updated) untouched as below.....

I'm going on this cycle trip because its going to be fun and, hopefully,a great way to raise some money for the RSPB.

I've been a RSPB member for many years and am a keen ( if not very 'good' ! ) bird- watcher.I also love cycling and have been on many cycle tours, mainly in the UK and Europe. This trip means I can combine both 'passions' and I will endeavour to visit as many RSPB reserves as I can on my way round the British coast.

I will be doing most of this trip on my own, camping as well as using other accommodation. My partner Carol will hopefully be joining me at the start of the trip (in late April 2022) for a few days. The plan is for her to then join me for the last 3/4 weeks in July.

UPDATE JULY 4th: I returned to Bath with 3315 miles completed.Carol and I set off from RSPB Leighton Moss (Silverdale near Lancaster) in April as planned. We cycled up to Carlisle from where Carol returned home.I continued round Scotland; the East and Southern Coasts of England and then the very hilly (!) Coasts of Devon,Cornwall and Somerset. For a range of reasons we are going to complete the  circuit of Britain  back up to Silverdale in September rather than July.

I am also using this trip to raise money for SUSTRANS and I have set up a 'matching' JustGiving site for this.

Just for the record: I will be using a 'traditional' touring bike ( ie. not an ebike) powered solely  by myself !
