Story
The WHA has generously chosen to raise funds towards water development charity, Just a Drop. So far, we have funded five borehole projects in Zambia that are making a huge impact on the lives of community members.
Overall, this work has benefited 1025 people; totally transforming the lives of communities who now have year-round access to clean and safe water, thanks to the boreholes and pumps installed.
In 2021, the Association will be funding another borehole - changing the lives of a further 200 people. The WHA’s target is to raise £10,302 to help villagers who exist in a state of real poverty as there are no local health services and no access to safe water.
Often in Zambia, women and girls, in particular, are forced to walk for miles to collect water, and often this water is dirty and makes them ill. With your support, the borehole will provide them with water all year around which is easy to access and safe to drink and cook with. In addition, the supply of clean, safe water can enable irrigation and farming, production of crops for both food and commerce which raises the standard of living.
Members of the community are also taught about how to maintain and repair the borehole and hand-pump, and are trained in topics such as:
- How water sources become contaminated from point source to consumption
- Variety of ways to prevent contamination
- Practice water disinfection
- Personal and environmental hygiene
- Preparation of tip tap
- Building of a pit-latrine
In the UK, we take clean, safe water for granted. It’s not the same everywhere. That’s where Just a Drop comes in. Just a Drop's mission is to work with communities across the globe to provide sustainable affordable safe water, sanitation and hygiene education in order to support community development and economic growth, saving and transforming lives.
As a small charity Just a Drop relies on funding from individuals, groups, companies and organisations in order to keep delivering their life-saving work. With your support and donations, through this JustGiving page we aim to reach our target swiftly.
The charity is called ‘Just a Drop’ because that really is all it takes to make a difference to those at risk of disease and death from unsafe water.
Their work is completely sustainable, involving the community at every stage to ensure that the work can continue for years to come.
