...And you should too (well, believing in it - giving up chocolate is optional, in your case).
This is a first for me: I am new to the whole thing of raising money for charity. I try to contribute whenever you do, but this time I thought 'Well, well, well... Time for me to do something epic, almost unimaginable. Time to put myself on the line and do something that requires discipline, strenght, rectitude." You got the idea. So, what's more fitting than a serial chocolate eater giving up chocolate for a very (erm... relatively very) long period of time? Remember it is also marking time, so it's double the sacrifice! (oh, I miss those M&Ms already...)
Now, I will get serious and explain to you why I am doing this. Those who know my history would have expected me to help some cancer's cure research: I clearly support them too (in private), but the charity I have chosen today is so immediate and almost tangible in the joy it brings to those concerned that I could not resist. And it's for the smile of children around the world... And nothing is more uplifting and rewarding than the smile of a child, after all (Rhyme not intended, though it does contribute to the poetry of this call).
It is known as the 'Smile Charity' and is an international children's medical charity, working with a team of dedicated medical volunteers to help changing children's life. :o) If we read the statistics, more than 200,000 children are born with a severe cleft condition every year and this often makes it difficult for them to speak or eat or socialise or ... simply smile! The result is them being ostracised by society just because their parents cannot afford a reconstructive surgery!
Operation Smile provides free surgery to repair cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities for children around the globe. The surgery itself costs £150 and it takes 45 minutes. I have set a target of £300, so maybe with your help we could finance two! Come on, prove to me something that I know: that I have generous friends! ;o)If you want more info, go to their webpage:
