The Iranian Lut desert is hot, desolated, swept by strong winds that create colossal effects and give life to dunes in the shape of stars. Its black lava rocks absorb the full power of the sun giving back as a result one of the hottest terrain on earth. Shoes melt and life is nowhere to be seen. Lut means empty and that's the essence of almost 500 kilometer of ridges, sand dunes, ravines and sinkholes.

It has been successfully crossed by the great Marco Polo and later in the years by the British explorer, Wilfred Thesiger, in 1964.

Recently nominated as a Unesco World Heritage site, is a place of wonder and extreme conditions.
