Story

MY FUNDRAISING

During the lockdown, I want to help people and share my happiness with
others. So, I have decided to fundraise for Apostleship of the Sea/ Stella
Maris.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, seafarers take risks to provide food for us.
In fact, 90% of goods arriving in our markets are transported at sea by
seafarers. Through the process, some get stuck far from home, without food and
with no knowledge whatsoever about when they will see their family again. In addition,
many haven’t celebrated mass for Easter because of the lockdown.

WHAT AM I DOING TO RAISE MONEY?

I have decided that, until I have raised £100, I will give up screen
time (TV shows, video games, movies) from Monday to Friday, and replace it with
prayers and cards for seafarers, games with my family, and baking cookies for
the kind donators.
At the end of the lockdown, I will try my best
to give you these cookies to thank you for your generosity.

WHY THIS CHARITY?

I came across Apostleship of the Sea through the church Our Lady of
Victories in Kensington. When I thought about it later, I told myself, “I have
such a happy life and a wonderful family and I am sure many sailors have too. “So,
imagining how I would feel stuck in a completely different country with no
knowledge on when I would return home and see my loved ones again, it struck me
how miserable seafarers must be. So, with my pocket money and by selling
lemonade in the garden, I started to donate to Apostleship of the Sea. now,
during the Covid-19 pandemic, sailors must feel even more abandoned, lonely and
worried if their families are safe from the virus at home. So, it is AoS’s duty
to help these seafarers, but they can only do it with our help. Please donate
today.

WHY THIS CHALLENGE?

I have recently noticed how often I go on screens. By giving this activity
up during week days, I can spend more time with my family, play board games and
chat with my siblings during lockdown and also dedicate some of this time to
sailors. I hope you are able to enjoy your family as well and will, through
your donations, help seafarers worldwide do so too.
