Story
Hi everyone, thank you for visiting my sponsorship page. I am running my first race, the Women's 5k on 5th September at Hyde Park on behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
I started running in April after being inspired by the London Marathon. I got serious about it in May after giving up smoking and deciding I could stand to lose a few pounds.
I'm hoping to get a reasonable time. I'm not that fast and to be honest it's likely I'll walk some of it. Don't want to fool you into thinking I'm the new Paula Radcliffe, ha ha!
...Anyway, I think Guide Dogs for the Blind do a brilliant job. I could have chosen from any number of charities but I chose them because they're fabulous. They're the first charity I was ever aware of as a child and used to see the doggies up Yate Shopping Centre with their cheery fundraisers. I used to always see a man with his guide dog when I worked in Bristol and the relationship between guide dog and owner is something that I'm really touched by. I have all the respect in the world for people with visual impairments. If you'd like to find out more about the organisation, they're at http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/.
I'd be extremely grateful for anything you could afford to give, but to give you an idea...
£1.30 - helps feed a puppy for a day
£5 - buys a puppy grooming kit
£10 - buys a lead for a Guide Dogs mobility instructor
£25 - provides two dog beds
£60 - buys a harness, handle, lead, collar and bell
£100 - provides four long canes
£250 - feeds a guide dog for a year
£600 - provides training for one visually-impaired person
£1,000 - co-sponsors a guide dog puppy
£2,500 - co-sponsors a guide dog
£5,000 - supports a working guide dog
I assure you this website is safe for transferring money and it only charges the charity a teeny tiny amount for the great service it provides.
Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Thanks for reading and thank you very much in advance if you very kindly decide part with your cash for my run :)
Vicky
