Ryan has been fighting neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer, since he was 2 years old. He has beaten the disease twice but sadly the disease has again returned. Ryan’s immediate treatment will be life saving radiotherapy and chemotherapy to try and shrink the new tumour on his spine.
As we do not have any relapse treatment protocols in the UK, Ryan’s best chance of beating neuroblastoma is to travel abroad for treatment. His mum and dad aim to take Ryan to Germany for a ‘Haploidentical Stem Cell transplant’. A recent conference held in Tubingen has shown very promising results for this treatment.
This transplant will not be funded by the NHS which is why Ryan needs your help. The treatment is likely to cost in excess of £300,000. Please give as much as you can afford to help save Ryan and other children like him. Every donation, no matter how small, helps.
Ryan’s parents, Julie and Gareth, said, “Ryan is now five and a half. He is a loving, happy, funny boy who deserves the best chance of a full and long life. Please help us to give him that chance and the hope that he can beat this monstrous disease.”
Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in the first year of life and accounts for around 15% of cancer deaths in children. Approximately 100 new cases of neuroblastoma diagnosed every year in the UK. Of these babies and children, around 50 - approximately half - will have high risk disease like Ryan. Neuroblastoma is the commonest 'solid' cancer diagnosed in babies and children.
You can read all about Ryan’s fight against neuroblastoma on the Neuroblastoma Alliance website.
