Victoria's 40 before 40
Fundraising for St Oswald's Hospice Limited
Fundraising for St Oswald's Hospice Limited
My Reason
I am trying to raise as much money as possible for therapeutic activities for the patients who attend St Oswald’s Hospice. I would also like to be able to use some of the money I hope to raise to purchase an electronic communication board to be used at the hospice for patients who have difficulty being able to communicate verbally.
My Aim
Is to do 40 things before I turn 40, (11-03-2017). At least 10 of these will be extremely challenging for myself and will also be part of a fundraising event.
My Story
I began working for St Oswald’s Hospice as a volunteer in both transport and the day hospice art and craft room in July 2013. My initial reason for volunteering at the Hospice was to re-engage myself back into a work routine, a social environment and to help others. I was made redundant from my full time employment in 2012 due to long term ill health. This subsequently knocked my confidence and self-esteem. I have suffered with anorexia nervosa since my mid teenage years but more seriously since I turned 30, resulting in lengthy in-patient admissions. The reason for me disclosing such personal information is the nature of my illness has highlighted to me how short life can be. A number of girls I have spent time with in hospital have sadly lost their battle with the illness.
Working at St Oswald’s has also made me aware that life can be shortened due to the nature of a number of debilitating and incurable illnesses. Therefore I am raising money to go towards therapeutic activities for patients to access that will hopefully help to distract and ease any physical or emotional pain they may experience.
I will be dedicating my events/challenges in memory of Dave Crozier, my close friend Faye Shepherd’s father, who sadly lost his courageous battle with cancer in February 2014, spending his final days in St Oswald’s Hospice. The staff did a fantastic job in making Dave and his family’s difficult time as comfortable and supportive as possible, for which they are extremely grateful.
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page in memory of David Crozier. If you’d like to make a donation to St Oswald's Hospice Limited I’d be very grateful, as it will help them provide hospice care to local adults, young people and children. Thank you.
