Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885.
On the 10th anniversary of my father dying from Cancer,29/09/21, I was informed that I had Breast Cancer.
My 3rd of 6 chemo sessions is tomorrow 17 December, at Dr Grays,
Elgin. As I will be unable to do my annual New Year's Day Dook in memory of dad for Macmillan I have decided to dress up in a different superhero costume for each chemo session to raise awareness of the importance of breast screening and raise some funds for charities close to my heart.
Chemo 3 is for SSAFA Moray Branch & SSAFA in service Kinloss. SSAFA have helped many serving personnel and veterans affected by cancer in Moray. Any funds raised will be divided between Moray Branch and Kinloss in service. As a volunteer for SSAFA for over 17 years I have seen first hand the positive impact help from SSAFA has on the serving and veteran community. At Leuchars I was the SSAFA in service community volunteer coordinator, working closely with Fife SSAFA Branch. The volunteers helped in a wide range of areas including, emergency childcare, an extra adult for days out with children (both of these especially during deployments), befriending, and driving clients to hospital appointments.
I continue in my volunteer roles as to SSAFA Moray Branch caseworker and the chair of the, at present dormant, Kinloss in service community volunteers. We are looking to reinvigorate the Kinloss in service group in the new year and will be looking for committee members and those interested in training to become community volunteers. If you are interested then please e mail me at veronica.young@sct.ssafa.org.uk
I also signpost clients to SSAFA as part of my paid work as Digital Care Coordinator in Scotland for Walking With The Wounded.
Thank you for all your support.
