Fundraising for Mummy's Star
£2,394
raised of £1,500 target
Event: Hackney Half Marathon 2023, on 21 May 2023
Two women are diagnosed with cancer in and around pregnancy every day. Since COVID, and with the current cost of living crisis, our families are in even more need of vital, personalised emotional support throughout their cancer journey.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In 2021 I was diagnosed with a molar pregnancy at 13 weeks. After a very painful pregnancy and surgery to end the pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a complete molar pregnancy via histopathology. From that point on I was on the placental cancer pathway for my medical care, and through 2021 and 2022 I was in receipt of monitoring and at times medical treatment that had a varying impact on my life at different points. Because I am by nature, and as is common with many women, a positive character who channels effort into taking life lightly and not burdening others… I would say the seriousness and severity of this experience has not always been ‘hammered home’ to those around me. However this has been a very serious experience for me and my family. Committing to run this race is a positive milestone for me and my family, to mark my physical health and to help fundraise for those earlier in their journey.

Although complete molar pregnancy and placental cancer are extremely rare, there are many more cancers that can (and do) occur at the same time as pregnancy…

Around 2 women each day are diagnosed with cancer in and around pregnancy. Mummy's Star is here to provide emotional, practical and financial support to every woman from the moment they are diagnosed through pregnancy, birth, loss and beyond.Mummy's Star now need to raise £106,142 to ensure they can provide this vital, personalised support to everyone that contacts them. Any contribution you can make will make a real difference to the lives of these families. Thank you.

May 2023 Update:

Hello there, I’m writing to say a big thank you for the generous support you gave to Mummy’s Star & share an update about my racing plans! As I’m now half way through a healthy pregnancy with our little rainbow twins, I am going to play it safe and run my race in 2024 (rather than this Sunday, 21 May 2023). I’ll still be running the Hackney Half Marathon, and supporting Mummy’s Star, but I’ll take part in the May 2024 edition of the race.

🏃‍♀️

I hope you don’t feel too a disappointed to hear I won’t be running this weekend! Rest assured your donation has still gone to a wonderful organisation and I’ll be crossing that finishing line with a big smile on my face - and hopefully a little pair of baby twins will be smiling back! - at this time next year. I’ll keep you updated with my training & racing progress after I give birth.

🤗

Thank you again,

Vassiliki 🤰🌈
