Story

I am pleased to announce that in October 2021 I will FINALLY be running the London Marathon (after having to postpone it from April 2020 due to the pandemic) in aid of the incredible Alzheimer’s Society! Let me tell you why…

On average, 600 people in the UK are diagnosed with dementia each day, with Alzheimer’s disease accounting for 62% of such cases. Between the date that this page first went live (8/12/2019), and the Marathon (3/10/2020), that will equate to roughly 400,000 new sufferers. Despite the fact that the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease is increasing, putting a greater strain on the NHS and all families affected, there is a huge shortfall in governmental funding towards the study of dementia. This is why contributing to the UK’s leading dementia research and support charity, the Alzheimer’s Society is so important, THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP!

Alzheimer’s disease is a terrifying and stressful condition, not just for those who suffer from it but also for all those who have to watch as their loved ones gradually deteriorate both cognitively and emotionally. Having seen these impacts on those close to me, it is reassuring to know that the majority of the funds raised through your donations will go towards supporting dementia sufferers and their families through 3,000 local services across the UK and the National Dementia Helpline!

Furthermore, the remaining money will be spent directly on dementia research, helping meet the Alzheimer’s Societies commitment of a £150 million investment over the next decade. As a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, researching how the communication between brain cells is affected by Alzheimer’s disease, I know first-hand the impact that charities like the Alzheimer’s Society can have on essential research. We are still without a cure for any of the dementias, with current treatments only providing mild symptomatic relief! Let’s help the Alzheimer’s Society change this!

Running a marathon will be an extreme physical and mental challenge so please throw me some change to keep me motivated! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so I’ve decided to make the fundraising experience a bit more intense and have set my target to be £2622 (that’s £100 for every mile). I would truly appreciate your donations towards this great cause, however, if you also have a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease or dementia PLEASE SHARE THIS PAGE with your family and friends so that together we can help as many people as possible!

THANK YOU x
