Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This September, I will take four days for an Alzheimer’s Society charity event. This will be a bit of a stretch, not so much because I dread the cycling (I think I’ll enjoy that) but because between work and studying a few days off become very precious. With that in mind, I want to spend my time on this urgent cause rather than another fun holiday.
Many people in the UK are touched by dementia – directly or indirectly. Just because I am lucky and my family and friends are all remarkably healthy, I cannot forget that there are others who are in need of help. The many people of all ages who suffer loss of memory, concentration, control and ultimately the ability to live independently need the help of a dedicated support network that offers advice, help and a community. People suffering from dementia often leave the work place and we do not run into them on our adventure holidays. There is a stigma that comes with dementia more than with other diseases and people suffering from dementia are often isolated. We all live in our minds and consciousness and through our mental capability – I would find it hard to imagine an illness that could trigger a stronger feeling of helplessness and anxiety. The Alzheimer’s Society is dedicated to the support for suffers of many kinds of dementia, not just Alzheimer, and they will use the donations well. The more you give, the more can be dedicated research, that will ultimately benefit the younger generations. Please have a look at alzheimers.org.uk and the factsheets – the numbers are staggering.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Please give generously to this urgent cause.
