Story

In 2016 we found out that our grandson had a serious heart condition, TGA. It was diagnosed at the 20 week scan and made for a very worrying pregnancy. At this time I started to run as I did not know what to do with myself! I found that I really could not run far and decided to keep trying. A good friend suggested that I try a park run and gradually I became a slow but regular runner. My son and friends decided to raise funds for the British heart foundation  by running the Bristol half marathon in 2017 and somehow persuaded me to do it too. Imre had a good birth and soon after it he had  had major surgery in Bristol. It was a tough time for everyone but all went well and he is now a sturdy and healthy nearly 3 year old.

I have carried on running, recognising the benefits it has given me and decided to go for the Great North Run as my ancestors are all from this area and a cousin who lives near Durham suggested it! So it is a run for the past and the future. As it comes nearer it is daunting and I have decided that I would like to take this opportunity to raise funds for the wonderful work that is done by heart charities and of course our very clever surgeons.

I was in two minds about asking for donations as it is just two years since many friends donated but recognise that if I run three times a week and donate £2 for each run ( a bit as if it was gym membership) then that will add up! In April, before our trip to the north-east, which is a sort of in preparation for the run I will do this.. so from January to now I donate my first £90.

I am sure that friends and family will be kind enough to use this opportunity to give to such a good cause.
