Story
In previous years, at roughly this time of the year, we would be well in to the DMU & UoL Varsity series, with our teams competing against one another on the pitch/court/range/water/slope.
Now, we’re all very aware that things are still not what they used to be, and so we wanted to put all of that aside and for this year come together for a joint cause, whilst also getting as many sports club members active and engaged as possible.
In light of the horrific recent events of Sarah Everard’s death, based upon conversations with students we’d like to not only support you to organise a virtual challenge for members, but also suggest that alongside your activities we join together to raise funds for Jasmine House - a Leicester based charity working with female survivors of sexual abuse, sexual violence and rape (you can choose to raise for another cause should you wish). Let’s work together to get people moving, support those in need and educate ourselves on how we contribute to making our sports clubs, and Leicester as a city, safer.
Virtual Varsity 2021 will be taking place from Monday 5th April until Friday 9th April and throughout this week students will be completing challenges and attending additional fundraising events, alongside being able to access workshops and resources on topics such as consent, reporting sexual harassment and how to become an active bystander.
