Story
My name is Sarah and I have been living with MS for around a year now. My MS journey started when I lost the vision in my right eye around 5 years ago. Last year I became very fatigued all the time, I lost the feeling in my legs and lost nearly all of my vision in my left eye. After two stays in hospital and losing my balance several times my GP referred me to a neurologist. MRI scans and tests revealed I had several lesions on my brain and I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After lots of rest, a few steroid infusions and starting treatment, I am now stable and in a period of remission.
Since my diagnosis I have tried to turn it into something positive by raising awareness about MS in the news and on the radio. I am also part of a support group for young people living with MS in the UK, we are called MS Together and earlier this year we raised £31,188 for the MS trust by collectively walking, running and wheeling 2million steps! Now Unite Leeds and Sheffield….it’s your turn!
The MS Trust support me and 130,000 other people in the UK living with MS. Many people are diagnosed with MS in their 20’s and 30’s. MS is such an uncertain disease to live with and whilst there are treatments which can reduce relapses by up to 50%. There is still no cure.
Unite Students want to fundraise as much for MS Trust as we can to add to the already amazing achievements of Sarah and everybody who has contributed to the 2 million steps as part of MS Together.
The aim is for employees from Unite Students in Sheffield and Leeds to be doing something out of the norm in order to achieve 1,500 miles throughout June!!
As an area, we have an opportunity to support not only Sarah, but also the 130,000 people in the UK.
We will be sharing our progress on our Just Giving page so you can follow our month long journey to reach 1,500 miles!
LET’S DO THIS!
