Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Whats the challenge?

====================

To trek around the coast-line of the United Kingdom, (England, Scotland and Wales).

Total distance approximately 5000 miles (8000 km).

Time to complete approximately 7 - 8 months (243 days).

We have set a target of raising £100,000 for charity.  £50,000 for Save The Children.

Daily tweets and social status updates will be made, Weekly wepisodes and video blogs will be filmed, edited and uploaded to youtube.

A documentary or TV series will be filmed for airing after the challenge is complete.

A book will be written documenting everything.

Rules

=====

1) Stay as close to the coast-line as possible either on water or on land. Do not risk personal injury or infractions of any laws.

2) Regular re-supplies will be made every 7 days, should something go wrong during this time improvisation will be needed. Use of social media for assistance will be allowed, however assistance from the production or film crew will not be allowed unless in life threatening situations.

3) No mechanical form of transportation will be allowed.  Only legs and arms must can be used in conjunction with walking boots and / or a paddle.

4) Kit may be replaced during a resupply for different equipment better suited to forthcoming challenges and obstacles.  Such as clothing, shelter or footwear changes.

5) Safety is most important!

Requirements

============

1) Food

We need a company or companies to supply 7 - 8 months worth of food for at least 2 people, production & film crew may also need sustenance

2) Shelter

There are parts of the coast line where there are no trees or cover of any kind so a hammock will not work.  We need to lightweight one-man shelters (less than 1kg preferrably)

3) Satelite Tracking

Yellowbrick Tracking will provide two-way satelite tracking with real-time interactive map facilities.

4) Pack-raft

We will be crossing rivers and esturies on almost a daily occurance in order to reduce the distance and add an element of adventure to the trip.  Alpacka Rafts have pledged their assistance with this requirement.

5) Clothing

Specialist lightweight all-weather clothing will be required as we will see many changing seasons.  The rules allow for a re-supply every 7 days at which point kit may be replaced allowing us to review and demonstrate different equipment for different situations, climates and terrains.

6) Water

Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink.  Being so close to the shore will mean water is in plentiful supply, however none of it drinkable!  We need a way of purifying water as we go so that we do not have to worry about carrying it or drinking our own urine.

7) Fire

What can I say, England is not particularily known for its clear blue skys and glorious sunny weather.  We do get sun and dry spells, but for the most part things are damp, we also have the problem of arrid areas in Scotland where fire starting materials will be scarce.  A lighweight backup burner will be needed.

Charities

=========

There will be either one major worldwide charity that will be supported as chosen by both team members, or two major charities (UK and US) as chosen by each member individually.  This is to be discussed.

Other minor supported charities will be the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboats Institute), UK Coastguard and UK Mountain Rescue as they may have to end up rescueing our sorry arses if we get into trouble :)

Currently a guy called Christian is attempting a similar journey completely on land and has raised over £100,000 for Help for Heroes, a target we should hope to at least equal.
