Story
UHDB Youth Service work with young people aged 11-18 with long-term health conditions who access their care at University Hospitals of Derby & Burton. We are a non-medical team, made up of qualified youth workers offering advocacy, one-to-one support, sessional work, day-trips, residentials and many more activities.
We aim to:
- offer non-medical support; concentrating on the young people's emotional well-being
- enable young people to build positive relationships with other patients who access hospital services
- provide a diverse range of activities & informal education focused around the young people's personal, social & emotional development
- improve patient experience by understanding the person behind the health condition
- encourage young people's independence in order to take a more active role in their own health care and prepare them for the transition to adult services
- provide opportunities for young people to attend trips and residentials that they may miss out on at school due to their health condition
Without the support of the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity we would not be able to offer such exciting opportunities to our young people. Donating to our page means that we can continue to improve the lives of our patients.
Your money will go towards:
- funding our Youth Club venue hire in Derby & Burton
- funding vital resources we use in our work e.g. arts & crafts, stationery, sports equipment, board games, consoles
- funding external agencies who help us provide skill-building & vital informal education sessions
- funding exciting daytrips during the school holidays
- funding life-changing residentials for our young people
