Story
After the huge success of our Everest Challenge fundraising event during freshers week last year, we've decided to do it all over again this year! The challenge will take place on Friday 23rd September, come and join us.
Mountain Rescue England & Wales is an emergency service that are the first (and in many cases only) response for rescuing climbers, walkers and mountaineers when something goes wrong in the great outdoors.
They're on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Entirely on a voluntary basis, at no cost to the casualty.
Their work isn't limited to epic alpine rescues though, they also regularly assist in searches for missing people, rescue swimmers and kayakers, assist in any way they can in the event of flooding and offer sympathetic support to affected families.
The Mountain Rescue England & Wales teams rely on donations to keep operating and to maintain their vast set of skills and vital rescue equipment. As a climbing club we're one of the groups most likely to use their services, as much as we hope we'll never have to. Anyone that's been climbing for a few years inevitably knows of times when friends and family have had to rely on them and we've been incredibly grateful to have that service. By donating we can ensure they have the funds to continue saving lives.
University of Birmingham Mountaineering Club is fundraising for Mountain Rescue England & Wales by running a charity climbing challenge. We'll be climbing the height of Mount Everest on a mobile climbing wall outside the Guild of Students. It'll be a fun opportunity to raise money for a vital service, while also offering potential new members the chance to give climbing ago. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come along and contribute to the effort, we'll be in the Guild car park all day on Friday 23rd September!
Any and all donations are massively appreciated, thank you.
P.s. Mountain Rescue E&W also save many many puppies/kittens
