Here is Glenys's story and one of the main reasons we are doing this...
To say she's been through a lot in the past three years would be an understatement! Glenys Twigg was diagnosed with bowel cancer in May 2013, followed by an operation to remove it and several lymph nodes on 27 June. She was told her tumor had gone into her spleen so they had to remove that at the time of the op. Thus leaving her without an immune system. She started chemo in August 2013 and managed to carry on with this until February 2014 to ensure there was no trace of the cancer and no chance of it coming back. It was awful watching her go through the ups and downs of chemo and she fought so hard despite the tiredness, sickness and other side effects. Then she was hit with another blow in May 2014 as she found a mole on her arm that she hadn't noticed before, and after a biopsy she was told it was malignant melanoma. They scheduled an operation to remove it for 2 September and they had to remove quite a bit of surrounding tissue from it as well as the lump. She still continues to go for check ups every 3 months where they will do a thorough check all over her body for moles or lumps. We constantly remind her that this is a good thing that they are keeping an eye on her but it can't be easy going through that. The big silver lining was on my birthday in August 2014..when I got a phonecall from her saying that she'd had the all clear from the consultant about her bowel cancer. We were so over the moon for her but shes been left with after effects from the chemo of feeling more tired than she used to and she loses the feeling in her fingers and toes sometimes and it can be painful holding anything too cold. During this time she also lost her brother to COPD which was another blow and left the family so devastated. Throughout both of her operations and the chemo, she continued to look after the 3 children she fosters, despite social services offering to help, but she put them first as she always does with everyone. Shes been fostering for over 30 years and is such a lovely kind caring patient and thoughtful person. We feel extremely lucky to have her in our lives and we have so much to be thankful for that she's still with us!
Thank you for all your support! Xx
