Story
I first met Steve "Wax" Loose at pre-season hockey training at Leicester University in 1987. We went on to be great friends and team mates. Steve had a twinkle in his eye and a sense for mischief which was a great assett to the University Hockey Club for many years. He broke into the 1st XI in 1990, where his goal scoring record at centre forward was second to many!
Unfortunately earlier this year, at the age of just 44, Steve was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As one would have expected he has been inundated with messages of support from his former team mates. From this support the idea of a Charity Hockey Match has developed.
Not just any hockey match however, a 24-hour game!
This will run as a tag match with his former team mates coming together for 12-hours in Cambridge to play a 6-a-side match, before handing the baton for a second 12-hours to Sydney, Australia.
Steve is currently well after under going chemotherapy and is very keen that we aim to raise money for both Pancreatic Cancer UK and Macmillan.
Please feel free to sponsor the game per hour or per goal? It may end up being a high scoring match!
