Story
In March 2021 we approached LUKAG after losing our 12 year old red fox Labrador Bradley suddenly in September 2020, after he had a seizure/heart attack. We were devastated when Bradley passed and wasn’t sure if our hearts were ready for another Labrador. It almost felt like a betrayal of his memory, and a replacement. We were contacted by Jules who said ‘are you sitting down’ and
began to tell us about Trigger’s complex puppyhood journey and lengthy veterinary record. We read his notes and digested what this would mean as a long term commitment for ongoing treatment and support. We cried (lots) but it was a unanimous decision that he needed us, as much as we needed him. So at the end of March 2021, this ‘long’ lad became part of our family. Trigger was almost
two years old, and was recovering from recent hip surgery (the X-ray says it all). So fast forward 18 months and it’s like he’s always been part of the family. He’s so laid back (unless you’re a milkman/postman/jogger ).
We have continued with his medication, hydrotherapy, physio etc but sadly his hind leg is no longer responding to treatment which means an amputation is needed (an option which was on the cards from the very outset, before he became our lad). We’ve sought a number of opinions and it’s been a difficult decision to make, constantly questioning if we’re doing the right thing. To alleviate
Trigger’s pain and to prolong his life, and to give me the puppyhood (delayed) he so deserves, this is the only option. We’ve been invested our time, money and so much love in him right from the start. Without the support from LUKAG we’re certain Trigger’s fate may have been very very different. We’ll keep you updated on his progress as he transition from ‘wonky dog’ to ‘Tripaw Trigger’.
He’s a keeper . Please hold Trigger in your hearts for his surgery on Wednesday. If you can support LUKAG (and donate just £1) so they can continue to support and rehome dogs like Trigger that
would be amazing.
