Story
The Wirral Club Challenge (was the TriClub Challenge) now enters its 5th year
For the last few years three of my local angling clubs, Wirral Borough AC, Rivacre AC and Egremont Ferry AC have run what was affectionately known as a TriClub Charity match and raised money for a local charity. Over the last fours years we have raised £14,305 for Claire House who we specifically chose after they supported one of our members families during particularly difficult times.
Most of the members are able to raise their sponsorship via simple face-to-face paper sponsorship forms and this year a number of just giving pages are being linked as a team so the main page https://www.justgiving.com/teams/Clairehousefishingclubchallenge will collate the off line collections hence my target only looks to take us to £15,000.....I'll leave the other £5,000 to the rest of the teams!
Every year we have managed to set the bar a little higher due to the fantastic support we have received from local fisheries, tackle shops, friends, family and work colleagues. 2016 will be a little different as we have extended the clubs entering and now have eight local clubs interested in competing and will be using no less than four local fisheries to accommodate the match itself. We may have to call it the "North West Club Challenge" in future years!
As with previous years the fundraising in 2016 is not match specific, but the now eight way challenge will provide a useful focal point for us. This years event will take place on Sunday 30th October at Lingmere, Moreton Brickworks, Yew Tree and Barnacre fisheries. Eighty anglers will be competing for essentially local bragging rights and the knowledge they are raising funds for a superb cause.
In the past we have been fortunate that the fisheries allow us to effectively fish for free or at reduced prices allowing our peg fees to be donated to the charity fund. The anglers entry fees from the day are then also donated and in the past even the winners cash payments from the match have ended up in the charity pot!
In addition this year, one of the key drivers of the fund raising, Colin Cook, who many of you will know and have seen on Children in Need last year, is also arranging a charity / presentation evening on 19th November when we will formally recognise the 2016 "Wirral Club Challenge" champions as well as the various section winners. We won't let the opportunity go without raising further funds with a prize draw (local tackle shops provide a huge array of prizes and Jamie Hughes and Andy May, previous and current Fishomania Champions have donated their time with coaching prizes) as well as a number of other 'fun' charity challenges (more details to follow).
Donations are further topped up by our members personal sponsorship during the year and that's were Just Giving comes in. It allows us an online facility to help the various clubs 'raise the bar' and take our 2012 to 2016 total onward and upward towards £20,000.
I feel the use of Just Giving and Gift Aid etc remains a simple way to maximise donations for what is a truly exceptional charitable cause that is so close to home for all of these Wirral based clubs.
